Saw Watchmen last night. I loved the fact that it’s an adult superhero movie. This trend toward ever increasing realism in comic book story-telling – started, as far as I know by Frank Miller with The Dark Knight Returns – is certainly paying off big-time for 21st Century Hollywood, and for us, the audience. Nudity, superheros exhibiting the full spectrum of human ethics (from god to asshole), long shots of life-changing conversations (instead of endless one-liners). I tell ya, it’s a breath of fresh air.
I’m still waiting for Preacher and Astro City and hey, while we’re at it, how about Kabuki, Maus: A Survivor’s Tale, Kingdom Come, and decent versions of Daredevil and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?
