I tell myself I don’t care whether a great photographic image is captured (from a fleeting moment) or manufactured (from a propped stage). But at the end of the day, I find myself bored to tears with most manufactured images. Too many slick Toyota ads? Perhaps.
But then comes along a man with a simple artistic vision that can only be captured at a certain precise moment from an obviously staged scene. Do it well and I love you forever. Do it carelessly and the Back button is a nanosecond away. And his gentleman? Mr. Laurent? As you can see, he knows how to create magic and draw us helplessly into his illusion. Kudos, dude.
