I always distrust people who say they don’t like TV. It’s like not liking trees. Or, these days, art. I admit, there was a time in my life that I didn’t own a TV and felt I wasn’t missing anything. But it was brief, and if I didn’t have anything better to do, I would probably have leapt right in. But these days, there is so much great stuff on the small screen, it is almost a betrayal of your culture not to be a part of it. Back in the day, I would be hard pressed to name five great current shows. But now, I could rattle off ten without hesitation.

OK, now that I’ve opened my big mouth, I’m not sure that’s true. But let me try. The Walking Dead, Shameless, House of Lies, Mad Men, Dancing With the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, True Blood, Downton Abbey,The Good Wife, Game of Thrones. Judging by ratings, I know there is a ton of other shows that would appear on other people’ lists, but that’s mine, quick and dirty. Are we in some kind of idiot box renaissance? I think so. And I hope I’m in my own pine box before it ends.
