What I admire most about this artist (and there are a great many things to admire) is his speculative sensibility without being overtly sci-fi. A ton of gamer and fantasy artists would start with the concept of ‘alien’ and in the design, give it certain human attributes.
Carlos Huante starts with the concept of human, plants his feet firmly there, and asks, What if? without engaging any non-human elements. For that alone, his work screams mastery – and then he brings a technique that would make even your uncle Fred put down the remote for a second and go, "Whoa."
