I decided to grow my sugar pumpkins vertically this year. They’re climbing a pyramidal arrangement of seven foot stakes. The plants are flowering now and the longest vines are eight or nine feet long, draping over the top of the supports like giants looking down on us lesser mortals, trying to figure us out. I’ll be trimming them once the fruit is big enough. But for now, I’m a bit intimidated by my creation. Especially since they’re all peering at once through my bedroom window.
